Cutterhead

Deep beneath the surface of a major European city, the construction of a massive infrastructure project hides a world of isolation and danger. Rie, a journalist documenting the project, ventures into the depths to interview the laborers who risk everything for their livelihoods. Among them are Ivo, a veteran mechanic from Croatia, and Bharan, a refugee from Eritrea; both men are driven by the desperate need to provide for their families back home. The routine of this subterranean world is shattered when a sudden, catastrophic fire erupts within the tunnel. With smoke and heat closing in, the trio is forced to retreat into a cramped hyperbaric chamber designed for cutterhead maintenance. As the surface team’s rescue efforts face insurmountable obstacles, the chamber becomes a claustrophobic pressure cooker. Trapped in the dark with dwindling oxygen, the group’s fragile social order begins to fracture. The psychological strain of their confinement forces them to confront the dehumanizing nature of their labor and the brutal reality of their survival instincts.
