Among Wolves
Set against the rugged, unforgiving backdrop of post-Civil War Spain, *Among Wolves* (2010) is a gripping tale of survival and isolation. The story follows young Marquitos, who is sent away by his father to work as a goatherd in the remote "Silence Valley." Placed under the care of Atanasio, an elderly and sorrowful man living on the fringes of society, Marquitos must learn to navigate the harsh wilderness and master the ways of the wild, including forming an unlikely bond with a tamed wolf. However, the peace of the mountains is shattered by a relentless pursuit. Don Ceferino, a cruel and vengeful man, is obsessed with hunting down Balilla, a fugitive bandit and former soldier hiding in the peaks. Driven by a personal vendetta, Ceferino uses his authority to intimidate and displace local families, turning the valley into a pressure cooker of fear and suspicion. As the search intensifies, Marquitos finds himself caught in the crossfire between the brutal demands of the landed class and the desperate struggle of those fighting to remain hidden. With the wilderness as his only refuge and the threat of violence closing in, Marquitos must navigate a world defined by generational trauma and the lingering shadows of war. Will he be able to protect his newfound companion and survive the encroaching cruelty of men?
