In the gritty 1952 noir *Kansas City Confidential*, Joe Rolfe, an ex-convict and former engineer, finds his life upended when he is framed for a million-dollar bank robbery. Though released by the police, Rolfe remains a marked man, desperate to clear his name and expose the true perpetrators. His investigation leads him from the streets of Kansas City to a remote Mexican resort, where he tracks a trail of anonymous criminals who were kept in the dark by a mysterious mastermind using masks to hide their identities. As Rolfe infiltrates a group of suspects, he crosses paths with Captain Foster, a retired police officer vacationing with his daughter, Helen. While Foster appears to be a mere tourist, he is secretly hunting the gang to secure a massive insurance reward and restore a career derailed by political maneuvering.
