Knockabout

In the bustling, unforgiving town of *Knockabout* (1979), survival is a daily gamble. Taipao and Yipao are two street-smart, impoverished young men who navigate a landscape of teahouses, casinos, and marketplaces, relying on elaborate swindles and counterfeit gold scams to secure their next meal. Their precarious existence takes a sharp turn when they cross paths with Chia, a mysterious stranger whose formidable fighting skills leave them both humbled and intrigued. Recognizing an opportunity to elevate their status, the brothers manage to convince Chia to become their martial arts mentor. However, the apprenticeship is far from traditional. Chia is a demanding, often brutal teacher, subjecting his new students to grueling, unconventional training regimens—including the bizarre "Garbage Boxing"—as they struggle to master the art of Kung Fu. As the trio’s bond deepens, the shadows of the past begin to close in. Chia is a man marked by history, hunted by dangerous adversaries known as the Painter and the Matchmaker. As these enemies draw near, the brothers find themselves caught in a web of shifting loyalties and mounting tension. In a world where trust is a scarce commodity and physical prowess is the only true currency, Taipao and Yipao must navigate a treacherous path of deception, questioning whether their mentor is a savior or a man using them to settle his own lethal vendettas.
