Darby and the Dead
Darby Harper is a high school social outcast with a haunting secret: she can see and communicate with the spirits of the deceased. Since her mother’s death, Darby has spent her life counseling these "Deados" to help them resolve their unfinished business and cross over to the afterlife, all while keeping her distance from her superficial classmates. Her isolated existence is upended when Capri Donahue, the school’s popular head cheerleader, dies in a tragic accident. Stuck in the living world and obsessed with her upcoming "Sweet Seventeen" birthday party, Capri forces a reluctant Darby to help her organize the event, threatening to haunt her if she refuses. To fulfill this bizarre bargain, Darby must infiltrate the school’s elite social circle. Under Capri’s guidance, she undergoes a dramatic transformation, gaining popularity and catching the eye of Capri’s grieving boyfriend, James. As Darby becomes immersed in a world she once disdained, she finds herself torn between her newfound belonging and her identity as a loner. Complicating matters is the arrival of Alex, a mysterious new student who seems to understand Darby’s world better than anyone else. As the pressure of the party mounts, Darby must navigate the dangerous intersection of the living and the dead, risking everything to find where she truly belongs.
