DESCRIPTION

In the gritty, high-pressure world of 1970s Italian journalism, Valerio Barigozzi is a man drowning in bitterness. A struggling reporter defined by a failed marriage and a resentment toward his young son, Luca, Valerio is desperate for a breakthrough that will grant him the financial stability he craves. His chance arrives when a serial killer, dubbed "The Monster," begins terrorizing the city, leaving a chilling signature: a red "V" lipstick mark on the faces of prominent victims. Seeing an opportunity to save his career, Valerio transforms the tragedy into a grotesque media spectacle. He orchestrates a sensationalist campaign, publishing provocative "letters to the monster" and peddling macabre promotional tie-ins to drive his newspaper’s circulation to unprecedented heights. As Valerio rises to fame as a celebrity journalist, his obsession with the case draws the intense scrutiny of Police Commissioner Pisani, who begins to view the reporter as a prime suspect. *The Fiend* is a dark, psychological exploration of the corruption of the press and the destructive nature of unchecked ambition. As the media frenzy spirals out of control, Valerio finds himself trapped in a web of his own making. With the police closing in and the line between observer and participant blurring, Valerio must confront the toxic legacy of his own nihilistic worldview before it consumes everything he holds dear.
