Detective Frank Spivey's life takes a dark turn when he intervenes to save a young woman with a hideously disfigured face from a knife-wielding attacker. Moved by compassion and a confusing attraction he can't quite explain, Spivey brings the mute woman—named Jenifer—into his home rather than let her languish in a mental hospital.
